  1. @1:31 — "…with a glowing G on it"

Other than conveying that the drive has power, does the light blink when there is data activity?

It is important for me to be able to see when a drive is busy, without having to look at my screen.

Also, people have reported that these drives are noisy. And others have reported that they are quiet. So I am unsure if people have differences of opinion on what is deemed noisy, or if, perhaps, some of the drives, although they work, are lemons (noise wise). Perhaps quality control allows for marginal quality tolerances?

I have been using LaCie USB drives, and have never had a noisy one. But the high capacity drives are very hard to find (unless you are willing to pay people that are reselling them with +$150 padded prices). These G-Technology drives are available at the moment, in small quantities. But if it is normal for them to be noisy, that is unacceptable for me.

Please let me know about the activity light, and the noise level with the drives that you have used (is it just a couple of drives, or many?).

    Thank you.

  2. i ordered the usb-c model from apple and it arrived today. although i quite like the design and quality of the drive itself, it is just too noisy for me (even in idle state). compared to my old seagate backup plus which this is supposed to replace, it gets hot really quickly for quite some time and the spinning noise and constant ticking so sadly i'm gonna return them

  3. Would you get type c or thunderbolt model for just storing video and photo raw files ? I edit off a SDD and then once complete I move it over to Hard drive. Which would you prefer ?

  4. u have to be insane, if u pay the HUGE premium for at best average drive enclosures.
the drives are the same as u get in a high capacity mybook enclosures. the price difference between those and the g-drive garbage is so big, the g-drive version costs 50% more and that is without a sale on the mybook drives here and this is for the 10 TB versions.
if u buy 5 of them, the money u would save (about 500 euros) is enough to build yourself a cheap apu nas at that point to throw the shucked drives in.
and this isn't even talking about the fact, that 14 TB versions of g-drives are priced out of reality compared to wd mybooks, so i didn't even consider them.

  5. I have seen other say that these drives are more geared towards mac, so for example the 10 tb model will only show 3.7 tb in windows, it looks like that is what there utility was saying in the video. Can you confirm that the drive is limited due to windows formatting or such. Not really a deal breaker since almost 4 tb is still good with storing games and such, and if I ever get a mac, would be awesome to have an external clone of my mac through time machine, etc…. Thanks!

  6. So you can just plug this into your mac and use is as a regular drive for storing your documents, movies, etc and then access and use them just like you would if they were on an internal hard drive?

  7. I plugged the thunder bolt 8TB Verison into my 2018 MacBook Pro and it didn’t recognize the drive until I plugged it into the usb-c port on the hard drive. I’m so confused as to why it didn’t work
